(For example, for a 8am reporting station, an rains produced by an afternoon shower are 'officially' reported in the following calendar date's report.) A number of stations report only rainfall data --- of these sites, many will only report on days when 'measurable' precipitation has been observed (#). Therefore, rainfall-only sites may have reports only for days-with-rain; this is especially true for data posted as PRELIMINARY. Unfortunately, for these rainfall-only sites, there is no way to distinguish between days with no rain and 'missing' observations. (Comparison with daily reports from neighboring stations may provide some useful guidance.
